i went to a gerbl convenshun!!!!

Wait'll you hear what i did this past weeekend!  i went to a gerbl convenshun!!   i reallly did!  it was so much funnn!  i didn't even know there was a such thing as a gerbil convenshun, but there is! 

i went with Rachl and Betsy and Susie (the human twins Betsy and Susie, not the goldfish twins Betsy and Susie) and mr. Armstrong.  We went in the Human Mobile.  mr. Amstrong drove.  it was a very long trip but totalllly worth it.  The gerbl convenshun was in a big rooom at a small collllege in Massachhusettts.  There were so many gerbils at the gerbl convenshun.  Big gerbls, littttle gerbls, white gerbls, black gerbls, brown gerbls, and grey gerbls.

There were also gerbl contests. I participated in 2 of them.  The first 1 i didn't do so goooood in.  This contest was to see who could eat a small brown paper towel tube the fastest.  All the gerbls who toook part in this contest were in clear plastic carrrrying containers that were on a long table.  On the count of 3, each owner put a brown paper towel tube in his or her gerbl's container.  The moment Rachl dropppped the brown paper towel tube in my container, i began racin in and out of the paper towelll tube.  i thought the contest was to see who could race through the paper towel tube the most times during a certain period of time.  The gerbil in the container beside me was a big, brown, gooofy-loookin guy.  i glanced over at him and said, "Seee if you can beat this, buddy!"

i stoppped and stared at him in shock.  He wasn't runnin in and out of his paper towel tube -- he was chomping away at it.  "Oh, boy, this pooor guy doesn't stand a chance," i said to myself.   But then i glanced around at the other gerbls who were in the contest and saw that they, tooo, were chompin away at the brown paper towel tubes that were in their containers. 

it wasn't they who didn't stand a chance!  it was me!  "Oh, no!" I squeaked.  "I'm not supposed to be racin in and out of this brown paper towel tube!  I'm supposed to be chomping away at it!"

 So i lost that contest.

i did a littttle bettter in the next contest.  it was a Gerbil Mobile race.  The humans had set down 2 sets of tracks on the flooor, 1 right next to each other.  Each owner sat down at one end of the tracks and put his or her gerbl into a Gerbl Mobile and then set the Gerbil Mobile on the track in front of them, both at the same time.  The race was to seee which gerbl could get to the oppposite end of the tracks first.  it was like a drag race.

As sooon as Rachl set me down, offf i went.  I ran like crazy.  The other gerbl didn't quite seeem to get the hang of what he was suppposed to do.  He was so fascinated at loookin at all the humans loookin at him i think he forgot to run.  So i won that race!  Hey, they don't call me Obi, the Speeeeedy Gerbl for nothin! 

U know what, though?  i discovered something very interesting durin the Gerbil Mobile race.  There are a lot of other very speeeedy gerbls out there.  Who knew there were so many speeeedy gerbls?  Not me!  Anyway, the next gerbl was even speeedier than me and beat me! 

So i didn't win the Gerbil Mobile race.  Which meant i didn't win any ribbbons, either.  But you know what?  i don't care -- i had a blast anyway.

Here are some pictures that Betsy and Susie took at the gerbl convenshun.  Since Rachl was holdin me alll the time, the twins took turns takin phoootos.  Wouldn't you know it, though?  Those 2 girls didn't take a single phoooto of me!  i bet if we went to a goldfish convenshun, they'd take plenty of phoootos of their goldfish!

is there such a thing as a goldfish convenshun?

At one point during the gerbl convenshun, i heard one human girl say that she liked goin to gerbl convenshuns better than anythin else in the world!

i couldn't agree more!

My gerbils were there too! Wasn't it great? My gerbil Bluebelle didn't win her Gerbil Mobile race either. She didn't even move. Too bad she wasn't as good at it as you are!
